Xbox 360: The Month Ahead – August 08

Ok, so now we’re nearly through July, and what a month it’s been. We had a lot of game news and surprises at E3, and now we’re closing the month with Comic-con. So what have we Xbox 360 gamers got to look forward to in the month ahead?

Well, as far as release dates go (US), we’ve got:

Crash Time: Autobahn Pursuit – August 5th
Madden NFL ’09 – August 12th
Smash Court Tennis 3 – August 12th
Fable 2 Pub Games (XBLA) – August 13th
Too Human – August 19th
Tales of Vesperia – August 26th
Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’09 – August 26th
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames – August 31st

So which games should you be buying/renting? Here’s my pick for the month ahead.

Well, most people would agree that action-adventure game Too Human is the most exciting title in the list, however a lot of people were let down by the Xbox Live Demo that came out recently. Most people criticised the dodgy camera angles and clunky control scheme. The story does look promising at least. Worth a rent? Yeah, probably. Definitely rent before you buy.

What else? Well, Mercenaries 2 looks like a good bet. If anyone remembers the first one, you basically ran round in a sandbox environment, blowing the hell out of everything whilest capturing people on your wanted list. Vehicles, buildings, bunkers, almost everything could be blown up. You can sure bet that the sequel will be a lot more of the same, that’s not a bad thing in this case though. Don’t expect a deep story from it, just expect to blow crap up. Worth a rent? Yup, looks good so far.

RPG fans will want to keep an eye on Tales of Vesperia aswell, although sadly it looks like European gamers will have to wait untill next year.

Also don’t forget that throughout the month new XBLA titles will be revealed.

Towards the end of the month we have the Leipzig GC (Games Convention, 20 – 24 August 2008) which should bring us some quality news and surprises, so watch this space.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of July – Mark.
