It is time for our annual end of the year awards celebration here at MonsterVine.

Throughout this week, the MonsterVine staff will be revealing their picks for the best games released in 2008. Join us for the celebration as we bring everything together and wrap things up for this year.

The staff has poured alot of time and energy into converging as a whole to discuss our picks and the reasoning for them. And the process of reaching a consensus was a long and arduous one, so please be considerate if you disagree [as in being respectful], we don’t want our celebration to erupt into a flamefest. In our process of selecting games, the staff were given broad instructions that were ultimately incorporated into each respective person’s writing. Therefore, there is not a hard format nor a need for a templete. These were the instructions given:

- All games selected were released in the calendar year of 2008.
- Each pick needs to be explained.
- Choices can be repeated among various categories.
- Platform picks did not neccessarily have to include games exclusive to that platform.

Microtastic Reviews: Zombie Edition

Plants vs Zombies
Developer: Popcap Games
Price: $3 Dollars
Platform: iPhone
Genre: Tower Defense
There is something delightful about the charming simplicity of Popcap’s titles, and Plants vs Zombies continues this legacy. Much like Peggle and any of its past franchises, Plants vs Zombies takes a single round to comprehend all of its basic rules. Though it never becomes difficult [...]

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath & Beyond Review

The original Matt Hazard had the potential to be a great game, good voice work with the likes of Neil Patrick Harris and Will Arnett. A brilliant backstory and marketing campaign which broke the fourth wall entirely, and the story while thin was entertaining and amusing. The sole problem came in the gameplay department which [...]

SB Plays The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

When the newest entry in the beloved Zelda series was announced earlier this year, people were both excited and skeptical. How well would a train in the Zeldaverse go over with fans? Would the gameplay be a replay of Phantom Hourglass, with its infamously numerous trips through the Temple of the Ocean King?
Now that the [...]
