Chrono Trigger DS: The Review

December 25, 2008 by SparklingBlue DS, Nintendo DS Reviews, Reviews 1 Comment

First on my Christmas swag is my one must play game of the year: Chrono Trigger DS.

Story: The year is 1000 AD, and to celebrate, the Millenial Fair is in town. But when Crono, our hero, meets Marle, a girl who owns an odd pendant, he gets swept away on an epic journey through time. Along the way, he’ll meet new friends, make new enemies, learn dark secrets, and ultimately stop the force that threatens to destroy the world. I’d tell you more, but that’d be spoiling the story.

Graphics: They may be from the 16 bit era, but they still look beautiful on two screens, if not a little small. Best of all, the anime cutscenes from the PSX version are here.

Music/Sound: Frog’s theme, Delightful Spekkio, Wind Scene, the Black Omen–all your favorite songs from the game are here, and they sound as great as ever.

Gameplay: You now have the option of playing on one screen or two. For my first time, I chose to play on one screen, which allows the botton screen to act as a map.

Extras: The game comes with a commemorative poster of Crono and co. fighting a boss. I did see one error on the poster: Marle is using the wrong kind of magic. (in game, she learns Ice magic, but on the poster, she’s casting Fire)

Overall, this is the greatest version of the classic RPG…if you haven’t played it yet, you’ll be in for a real treat.

SB’s score: 10/10

Wasn't really a review, more of a description of the game. You need to go into more depth in all those areas, The pros and cons of the game, how well it handles, the pacing blah blah blah. The only critisism's I saw about it was about the poster, people aren't going to give a flying toss about that. (Unless they are hardcore poster nuts who love Chrono Trigger. Quite a niche market I must say)
