Wii U Doesn’t Support DVD/Blu-Ray Movies

Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata has announced that the Wii U won’t support the capability of playing DVD or Blu-Ray movies. In an investor Q&A, Iwata stated that people already owned devices for that entertainment purposes and “it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.”

It doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t watch movies on your Wii U. Netflix may be coming as a form of instant streaming for the new Nintendo console. And if the company can produce a Netflix stream on the Wii U controller screen, that’d be perfect.
