CES 2014 – Use A Keyboard & Mouse On Your Console

GE1337P_3

The International Consumer Electronics Show happened last week and IOGEAR was showing off Keymander, a small USB powered device that lets players to use a keyboard and mouse to control their console games.

PC gaming is often superior to console counterparts thanks to the fidelity of control offered by a keyboard and mouse. IOGEAR has a solution which remaps the buttons from your controller and places them in their PC familiar locations. You can connect the device to a computer for specific button mapping and profile creation which can then be easily switched on the fly.

Another smart feature that the Keymander adds is keyboard input. With the press of a button the keyboard stops emulating the controller and acts as a regular keyboard for easy console text input.

Currently the Keymander only supports PS3 consoles out of the box, but a free firmware update to enable Xbox 360 and Xbox One is expected to be released by the end of Q1, with PS4 support coming later in the year. The unit is priced at $99, and you will have to provide your own keyboard and mouse. It is a small price to pay if you are looking for precision control on your console games.
