Super Mario Odyssey Launches October 27

Super Mario Odyssey, which was announced alongside the Nintendo Switch for a 2017 launch, received a release date at E3. It will be available for the Nintendo Switch on October 27.

In addition to the release date, Nintendo revealed a new trailer for Super Mario Odyssey that highlights Mario’s new “capture” ability. By using his new hat friend, Cappy, Mario can take control of objects and enemies, which will add an interesting new twist to the traditional 3D platformer gameplay.

In this game, Mario must collect Moons to power his airship, the Odyssey, and use it to travel between worlds so that he can save Princess Peach from Bowser. It features multiple worlds, each of which has its own unique style and many secrets to discover. Super Mario Odyssey will be an exploration-based 3D platformer like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

Super Mario Odyssey will feature amiibo support, allowing players to get assistance and unlock costumes. Three new amiibo were also announced: Mario, Princess Peach, and Bowser in their wedding outfits. These three amiibo will become available on October 27 with the game.

Nintendo shared additional Super Mario Odyssey footage at the start of its Nintendo Treehouse live stream, highlighting some of the secrets, moves, and exploration we can expect from the start of the game. Overall, it looks like a solid addition to the Mario series and the Nintendo Switch’s 2017 lineup.
