FIFA 12 Review

by Craige Parmenter - on Oct 4th 2011 - No Comments

FIFA 12
Developer: EA Sports
Price: £44.99/$69
Platform: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, 3DS, PSP, Wii

Well the football season has started once again and that can mean only one thing; there’s a new FIFA game out for the masses to pretend they’re actually the best players in the world. I kid, I love football games but this is actually the first FIFA game I’ve owned since World Cup 98 came out on the N64 so I really am coming at this as a new comer. Should probably mention at this point that as a proud citizen of her majesty’s British Isles, I will always call football; football and never call it soccer. Just to make sure there’s no confusion. EA have been proudly making sports games for 20 years now, a fact they boast about constantly in FIFA 12, and they’ve been making the FIFA series itself since FIFA International Soccer graced the stores back in 1993. Obviously the series has come a long way since then, but old football games were fun and uncomplicated so has the realism brush been used too heavily? (more…)

Dead Space Ignition Review

Dead Space Ignition
Developer: Visceral Games
Price: Free
Platform: XBLA and PSN

Ignition is a puzzle game based in the Dead Space universe and it’s very puzzling why it exists at all, after all how often do think of badly animated comic book style puzzle games when you think of Survival Horror? Dead Space was a game that took me a long while to get into, but once I actually sat down and played it I enjoyed it very much – on reflection I’d much rather be reviewing that right now. (more…)

Worms Reloaded Review

Worms Reloaded
Developer: Team 17
Price: £17.99 (Steam)
Platform: PC

Finally an end to the dry-spell of reviewing on my part, I was handed the opportunity to review Worms Reloaded on the PC and I jumped at it like a shot. I have always been a massive fan of the Worms series, all the back to 1995 when the first was released for the PC. Now things have changed in the series, the wackiness has got wackier, the graphics have got cartoonier and thankfully that little flutter that Team 17 had with 3D gameplay has been taken out back and humanly put down. Exercise in Futility

by Craige Parmenter - on Aug 1st 2010 - 5 Comments

As my task for gaining all of the achievements for the games that I have rumbles ever onwards, I’m inclined to think that this is probably an impossible task. This came to a head after achieving all 50 of the achievements for Bioshock, only to have a 51st appear after completion. This, I thought, was just taking the mick. I haven’t even tried to gain that last achievement, I mean come on completing Bioshock on Hard with no Vita Chambers? Madness I say, Madness! (more…)

Control Issues: The Worst in Controller Peripherals

by Craige Parmenter - on Jul 23rd 2010 - 4 Comments

Well this is my first post at Monstervine and I’d like to thank Will for the opportunity to write here, however lacking an actually game to review I’m going to have a nice rant concerning the shocking level of controller peripherals that have either been on the market or are even still for sale in these enlightened times. I have a feeling that I’ll earn the ire of some retro gaming fans for one of the items on this list, but that doesn’t change how truly terrible it was. Also I’d like to mention at this point that I have nothing against Nintendo, but they do have a somewhat turbulent history when it comes to this sort of thing.
