Nintendo is giving value-minded consumers even more choices for satisfying everyone on their holiday gift lists. Starting Nov. 6, new Metallic Rose and Midnight Blue versions of the Nintendo DSi XL™ hand-held system will be available in bundles, each packaged with a free copy of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Mini-Land Mayhem! game.

Offered at a suggested retail price of $169.99 in the U.S., these colorful bundles deliver countless hours of portable fun with fan-favorite Nintendo characters. The bundles make great stocking stuffers.

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, players must help Mario™ rescue Pauline by guiding Mini Marios through more than 200 puzzle levels filled with traps set by Donkey Kong™. Players use the stylus on the touch screen to strategically guide the Mini Marios, place items and solve different puzzles. Players with a broadband Internet connection can even construct their own levels or download additional levels using Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. With a strong online community constantly creating new levels, players can always find new challenges to play in the thousands of user-created levels already available, or players can contribute their own levels as well.

Like the Mini Marios themselves, the fun of Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! just keeps going. Nintendo regularly issues level-design challenges to players. The 20th Challenge, issued on Oct. 14, invites players to create levels involving Crumble Blocks. Players have until Oct. 28 to submit an entry, after which others can download and judge them using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection via a broadband Internet connection. The top vote-getting levels will be announced on Nov. 2. Be sure to check back for ongoing challenges.

Beyond the included Mario game, built-in cameras and large screen, Nintendo DSi XL also offers players access to hundreds of downloadable games via the Nintendo DSiWare™ service. Users with broadband Internet access can redeem Nintendo DSi Points™ to download digital games. Nintendo DSi Points can be purchased in the Nintendo DSi Shop, or a Nintendo DSi Points Card can be purchased at retail locations.

From the press release:

New and experienced fans of the Professor Layton video game series don’t have to wait for Halloween to discover a wealth of eerie tricks and brain-teasing treats this season. Launching today for the Nintendo DS™ family of hand-held systems, the Professor Layton and the Last Specter™ game marks an extraordinary new chapter in the fan-favorite puzzle adventure franchise, featuring a prequel storyline that invites players to help the top-hatted professor solve his very first case. Professor Layton and the Last Specter features more puzzles than any previous series installment and a bonus role-playing game called Professor Layton’s London Life™ that lets fans immerse themselves in the Professor Layton universe like never before. This new game delivers hours upon hours of unique portable entertainment.

In Professor Layton and the Last Specter, distinguished scholar Hershel Layton has yet to become a world-famous master sleuth. Upon receiving a mysterious letter from an old friend, he travels to a rural town called Misthallery that’s said to be haunted by a nocturnal phantom. As players progress through the story by solving a wide variety of logic, slide, picture, number and language puzzles, they’ll also encounter Layton’s brainy assistant, Emmy Altava, and witness his first meeting with would-be apprentice Luke Triton. The game’s numerous puzzles intertwine with the storyline in clever ways and are suitable for all skill levels. Starting Oct. 23, players can also download additional puzzles by connecting their Nintendo DS system to the Internet via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection.

“The huge variety of puzzles in Professor Layton and the Last Specter make it not only entertaining but also a terrific value,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With a bonus role-playing game that takes the experience even deeper, players can get to know Professor Layton and his universe in a fun, interactive way.”

In the Professor Layton’s London Life role-playing game – which comes included on each Professor Layton and the Last Specter Game Card – players can experience life in Little London and mingle with quirky characters from throughout the Professor Layton game series. With more than 100 hours of game play and an additional storyline to complete, players can customize their appearance and surroundings, work odd jobs or collect clues to help uncover the origins of a mysterious fairy. Professor Layton’s London Life can be played anytime; it does not require players to complete the main game first.

•Nintendo sold more than 260,000 Nintendo 3DS™ portable entertainment systems, an increase of more than 10 percent from the previous month. Nintendo has sold nearly 450,000 units of Nintendo 3DS following a price reduction on Aug. 12.

•Nintendo sold more than 647,000 total hardware units in September, including 240,000 Wii™ systems and more than 145,000 units of the Nintendo DS family.

•The 273 million software units sold for the Nintendo DS family equates to more than 107,000 games being sold per day, every day for almost seven years. More than 273 million units of software have been sold for the platform in the United States, including 24 of the top 25 and 43 of the top 50 best-selling portable games in this hand-held generation.

XSEED will release a soundtrack to accompany the first run copies of the Nintendo DS action-RPG title: Solatorobo: Red the Hunter when it releases in September at the price point of $34.99.

SEGA announced Aliens: Infestation for the Nintendo DS will release in September of this year. The game, which is being developed by WayForward in collaboration with Gearbox Software, hopes to deliver the terrifying, and action packed experience fans expect from the Aliens film series. The game is described as “an action-heavy side-scrolling exploration game and will be part of the ALIENS expanded universe.”

Fans can recruit and play as 19 different marines, each with their own unique dialogue. Players can also expect to see iconic environments including the Sulaco, the Derelict ship, and LV-426. Expect to fight the Xenomorphs with the iconic weapons and tools from the franchise.

“In contrast to our other Aliens title in the works at the moment, Aliens: Infestation delivers a game that focuses more on exploration of the expanded universe,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing, SEGA West. “WayForward really put all their passion into making Aliens: Infestation the definitive Aliens experience that you can fit in your pocket.”

PopCap Games isn’t afraid of spreading the love and now everyone will have the opportunity to play Bejeweled 3 on their favorite video game system. So let’s count em: Nintendo DS, Playstation 3, PSN, Xbox 360, Xbox Live Arcade. That’s a total of five platforms that Bejeweled 3 will make an appearance on before the end of this year.

Bejeweled 3 is expected for a simultaneous Q4 2011 release in North America and Europe. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Xbox 360 version of Bejeweled 3 comes with Kinect support…
