Bethesda Mocks JRPG Fans

Sorta clever. In an effort to promote Bethesda Softworks latest title, Fallout: New Vegas, overseas – the company has engaged in mocking the conventional themes found in Japanese role playing games. In an advert in which a couple of angry picketers protest, the translated message spells out a different story. These messages range from, “A game where you just follow the scenario is like living life on rails,” to “What’s the point of playing again if there’s no change to the story,” and my favorite “When did games become something that you watch?”

Sure to be a head turner for heated debate, we can also say to Bethesda, “Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter will still outsell your game in Japan.”

The last of the five planned downloadable content expansions, Mothership Zeta, will be coming Monday, August 3 for the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows platform said developer Bethseda.

Priced at a fantastic 800 Microsoft Points ($10), players will be able to explore a gigantic alien mothership and solve the intricate mysteries of said mothership. Bethseda sent out a fact sheet detailing the new items, locations, and story components in the expansion.

All five downloadable content expansions will be bundled alongside a Fallout 3 ‘Game of the Year’ edition due to hit stores in October for $59.99 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and $49.99 on PC.

Mothership Zeta Fact Sheet

DESCRIPTION: Defy hostile alien abductors and fight your way off of the massive Mothership Zeta, orbiting Earth miles above the Capital Wasteland. Mothership Zeta takes Fallout 3 in an entirely new direction – outer space. Meet new characters and join with them in a desperate bid to escape the Aliens’ clutches. To do so, you’ll wield powerful new weapons, like the Alien Atomizer, Alien Disintegrator, and Drone Cannon, and deck yourself out in brand new outfits, like the Gemini-Era Spacesuit and even Samurai Armor.

STORY: A strange Alien signal is being broadcast throughout the Capital Wasteland, originating from a crashed UFO. Is it a distress call, or something far more sinister? That question is answered when you find yourself beamed aboard an enormous Alien spacecraft, with only one alternative – to fight your way to the bridge of the ship and secure your escape.

KEY FEATURES:

* Find and exploit new and destructive alien technology, like the Alien Atomizer and Drone Cannon.
* Explore the vast Mothership and learn the secrets of the Aliens’ master plan.
* Thwart the Aliens’ attempt to stop your escape, and take over the Alien ship before it wreaks havoc on the unsuspecting Earth below.
* Fight against the Alien Invaders, their robot drones, and turn their own horrible experiments against them.
* Ally yourself with an unexpected array of characters, both from the Capital Wasteland and from Earth’s past.
