Kirby’s Massive Attack, Horde of Pink Fuzzballs Confirmed

by William Saw - on Jun 10th 2011 - No Comments

Kirby’s Mass Attack is a nightmare come to life on screen through a mob of Kirby’s. That’s right a pack of Kirbies. Nintendo has taken the route of Locoroco in the next Kirby installment for the DS handheld and I’m kinda scared. How will Dreamland’s citizens contend against a horde of big, invincible Kirbies especially when their aim is to destroy everything in their path? All I know for certain is that Kirby is not a character you should **** with. (more…)

Square Enix Exec Felt Embarrassed of Its Japanese E3 Showing

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - No Comments

This piece of news has been making the rounds. Square Enix had a good showing this year from its Eidos division with Tomb Raider starting off the Microsoft Press Conference and Deus Ex, Hitman Absolution in the media reports. But what happened to all of Square Enix’s Japanese offerings?

Our KHU correspondent Arturo had been searching high and low for any tidbit of Kingdom Hearts information from the Japanese division of Square Enix. However, the only real Japanese game on display from the company at this year E3 was Final Fantasy XIII-2. It would make sense that now a Square Enix executive confirmed their dismal showing.

Koji Taguchi, CEO of Square Enix Holdings, posted on Twitter via Andriasang: “Because we merged with Eidos and had games like Tomb Raider, Deus and Hitman, as a company we were able to keep face. But the decline in Japanese titles was almost humiliating. This has been a week where I worried daily about how we can fix this.”

E3 2011: Paper Mario 3DS Trailer, Screenshots

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - No Comments

I really think Nintendo is the only company that can sell me my childhood nostalgia again and again and get away with it. The new Paper Mario for the 3DS is no exception to the tale.

No details were really elaborated on the game itself but the trailer explains what to expect. Its safe to assume that its a new Paper Mario adventure with new gameplay features like the part where you cut up enemies with scissors. That looks cool. (more…)

E3 2011: Legend of Zelda Wii U Tech Demo Video

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - 1 Comment

Alot of people, me included, were initially confused when we first saw footage of HD Legend of Zelda on the newly announced Wii U. Since it wasn’t formally announced, we figure that Nintendo was testing the reactions of what Link would be like in glorious high-definition and I will admit it garnered my attention.

The tech demo video I posted below doesn’t show off any actual gameplay since its all scripted but gives you kind of an idea of how the next Legend of Zelda will work with the features attached with the Wii U controller: moving, panning the video around, pulling up the map, inventory, and HUD, switching between day and night, and looking on both the Wii U controller and the televsion simultaneously. Rayman Origins Sells Me Nostalgia I Never Had

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - No Comments

Seriously that’s how awesome the new Rayman Origins from Ubisoft sounds. Michel Ancel, having never seen him before, can probably convince me that Rayman is a game that I should play not knowing anything of its past iterations. Much like how Ken Levine can sell me a Playstation Move and a Wii U simultaneously.

The co-op buddy game is whimsical, takes light of other games, and presents something that I don’t usually see in video games. Color and imagination. If you don’t believe me check out the E3 2011 walkthrough from the Ubisoft press conference. I’m still waiting for Beyond Good and Evil 2, Michel! (more…)

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record Convinced Me That Its Probably Good

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - No Comments

“I’m going to Uranus Zone!” In a bizzare way of re-imagining a rather somber video game, I think Capcom may have done it. If given the opportunity to run with the “what if” hypothetical and place the character Frank West in the same game, same setting, and story – what would you have done? Make it the best playground of fun ever that is!

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record takes Frank West to Uranus Zone this Fall for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. He’s covered wars you know. (more…)

From Dust Shares A Wonderful E3 11 Trailer

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - No Comments

God games have fallen out of notice lately but Eric Chahi is bringing the “spiritual successor to Populous” to the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network this summer in From Dust, through a gorgeous art style and sandbox features.

Its being developed at Ubisoft Montpellier with Another World creator Eric Chahi, the XBLA version is released with Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade promotion which begins in July. I’m looking forward to remapping the world in my own image. (more…)

Wii U Not Using Friend Codes

by William Saw - on Jun 9th 2011 - No Comments

In a report by Game Informer, the Nintendo Wii U may not be using friend codes on their next-gen console.

Ubisoft director Adrian Blunt stated during a demo of Ghost Recon Online that the Wii U won’t have friend codes but rather the publisher is employing their own user account system to be used with the game. “Rather than using friend codes, which we’ve had in the past, we’re able to connect players in a much easier way, which allows us to have a community that’s playing together in the game.” However, it could just mean that Ubisoft is integrating a system similar to UPlay rather than Nintendo directly stating that they will be ditching friend codes.
