One of my most memorable Halloweens as a young lass was going as Link. Surprising as it sounds that a girl would dress up as a boy character; I had the build and features to pass myself off as the Hylian hero at the time.
Materials required:
–One spare Robin Hood tunic and hat (left over from the year before)
–Belt
–Tights (black if modeling the NES Link; as I was; white if modeling a later Link)
–Boots
–Cardboard (to make items)
I made every item from the original game, with nothing but the manual, a lot of cardboard, and a truckload of markers (well, one of the family cookbooks masqueraded as the Magic Book).
When all was said and done and I put the costume on for the first time, I felt an odd sense of calm. It was, for a moment, like I really WAS Link! (I had to re-make the swords many times due to living room play time)
But the first real test came at one local Halloween party I went to every year, and I was a hit! Some people even called “Hi, Link!” as I mingled with everyone.
Unfortunately, it rained Halloween night, so most of my “items” got soaked during trick-or-treating.
I sometimes wish I could go back in time and do that again.
Until next time, happy gaming
