The NPD group have released console sales figures (U.S. only) for July 08. Our beloved Xbox 360 did disappointingly poor in comparison to other consoles, only managing to beat out Sony’s aging Playstation 2 system.
Here’s the list borrowed from IGN.com:
1. Nintendo DS: 608,427
2. Wii: 555,012
3. PlayStation 3: 224,900
4. PlayStation Portable: 221,651
5. Xbox 360: 204,752
6. PlayStation 2: 155,510
So Nintendo is still top, and beating Xbox 360 by more than 950,000 sales. No surprises there huh?
As for software sales, Xbox 360 fared a bit better:
1. NCAA Football 09 (360)
2. Wii Fit w/Balance Board (Wii)
3. Guitar Hero: On Tour (DS)
4. Wii Play w/Remote (Wii)
5. NCAA Football 09 (PS3)
6. Soulcalibur IV (360)
7. Mario Kart w/Wheel (Wii)
8. Rock Band Special Edition Bundle (Wii)
9. Soulcalibur IV (PS3)
10. Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution (360)

Interesting things to note:
1. Metal Gear Solid 4 out of the Top 10 in July, just only a month after its release.
2. Xbox 360 still faring better in software sales. I.E. Soul Calibur IV, NCAA Football 09 for 360 selling more than PS3 version.
3. Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution actually breaching the Top 10, good news for console strategy games?
