Apparently, the issues with DRM (Digital Rights Management) aren’t that big, only 1% of consumers have even tried to install on over 3 machines. Yes, Spore has this “issue,” you buy the game and can only install it 3 times, doesn’t matter if it’s the same computer, you have to go online to register the product instead of giving you an unlocking key inside the packaging to type in upon installation.
Well users got mad, what if your PC broke? What if you wanted to play it on your laptop? Tough luck pretty much. Well, EA has responded and has said that they will allow users to “de-authorize” a computer with the game installed on it. This feature will come in a patch, hopefully soon, many have decided not to purchase the game because of this.
“EA has no intentions — nor will they ever — to make it easier for people to play a pirated game… than to play an authentic retail copy.â€
SecuROM is allegedly thought to bring malware, viruses and harmful content to your PC, this is not the case and you’d have better luck getting these installed on to your PC by downloading a pirated version.
Views on the matter? I think it’s a step forward, but I’m still holding off on the purchase until I can for sure know that if I want to de-authorize an installation, I can.
