Alright, here we are at the start of September, and we’re staring the release of Square-Enix’s Xbox 360 RPG Infinite Undiscovery in the face. So what do the critics think? I’ve had a look around the web to find out.
IGN.com – 7.1 (out of 10) “This isn’t a game marred with horrendous bugs or unplayable combat. And it’s not boring. It’s just misguided. The story is intriguing enough that RPG fanatics should at least give this a rental. Considering it’s on the short side for a Square-Enix RPG, you shouldn’t have trouble beating it in a week.”
1up.com – 75 (out of 100) “Despite the badly botched opening segments and frustrating menu and navigational issues, it really won me over with its rewarding combat, kooky charm, and goofy humor.”
Gamesradar.com – 7 (out of 10) “Like its hero Capell, the game’s caught between sticking to what it knows and the temptation to go out and be a real revolutionary. Unfortunately, Infinite Undiscovery never really figures itself out, leaving it an inconsistent game that’s awkward and shallow, but still intriguing.”
Gamepro.com – 3 (out of 5) “An RPG with this kind of pedigree should have been something Xbox 360 owners could be proud of; instead, it disappoints and is yet more proof that the 360 needs more quality RPGs and fast. Keep your fingers crossed, 360 fans, that Final Fantasy XIII delivers the goods.”
So the overall feeling seems to be that Infinite Undiscovery has turned out to be a rather mediocre game. If you’re still interested in it, maybe you should think about renting it.
Here’s to Final Fantasy XIII showing us that Square-Enix can still make a cracking RPG! (Hopefully).
