Square-Enix develops new studio in the US.

Square-Enix has decided to devote more attention to the Western market, and as a result, a new studio is being developed in Los Angeles, California. Based around an original IP, news has it this new studio is already into development of an action game. But don’t expect a blockbuster hit any time soon! This studio is currently staffed with just three individuals, but the future plan is to increase this number to thirty. Further more, Square-Enix USA‘s president, John Yamamoto has stated the studio plans to “start small” with titles intended for digital distribution.

Look out, PSN, XBL and Wiiware, more titles are possibly heading your way in the near future!

Yamamoto also speaks of the company’s increased interest in middleware. Last Remnant, which uses the Unreal 3 engine is the first of Square-Enix‘s projects to take this initiative. He also states that:

“… exclusivity agreements for games are basically a thing of the past in this generation, and that it is important to consider the global market instead of just one region and just one console.”

Does this mean Final Fantasy Versus XIII might see the same fate as Final Fantasy XIII? Only time will tell.
