Confirmed: The Next Metal Gear IS Touch

UPDATE: Konami has confirmed the existence of the iPhone Metal Gear, titled Metal Gear Touch. It was revealed alongside three other Konami iPhone projects: Frogger, Silent Hill: The Escape, and DanceDanceRevolution S Lite.

Due for release in Spring 2009, Metal Gear Touch is classified as a “touch shooter” and will feature 8 levels from Metal Gear Solid 4. More stages will be added post-release.

While Hideo Kojima stated to 1UP at the Spike VGAs that his new Metal Gear project may be revealed in literally a matter of a few weeks, it seems that Japanese publication Famitsu has beaten him to the punch by revealing a new Metal Gear for the iPhone.

According to this scan from the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly, the new Metal Gear looks to take advantage of touchscreen capabilities and may involve a more action oriented than its portable predecessor Metal Gear Acid.

We are considering this a rumor from now because it was reported from Kotaku.
