Boom Blox Sequel Released this Spring

This morning EA announced Boom Blox Bash Party exclusively for the Wii, the official sequel for Boom Blox. Steven Spielberg has reprised his role of producer on the game, although I don’t really see what he’s bringing to the table other than name value.

The game features more than 400 new levels and will take place underwater and in zero gravity ‘and more’. The focus of the newest release is the multiplayer as it features twice as many multiplayer challenges than the original for ‘tons of high-energy, family-friendly fun!’. Yeah. Spielberg himself had this to say about the sequel:

“BOOM BLOX Bash Party is a wild social gaming experience, we know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original BOOM BLOX together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with BOOM BLOX Bash Party.”

The game will also feature brand new block types and shapes and there will apparently be new twists to old gameplay. The most interesting thing about Bash Party to me though, is the ability to download new user created levels via this thing called the internet. Official levels made by EA will be made available as well as user-created ones that will be made from the Create Mode:

“With the press of a button, players will be able to grab, play and rate new levels from EA as well as levels created by members of the BOOM BLOX Bash Party community. Using the game’s easy-to-use Create Mode, players now have the power to share the levels they built with friends, or submit their masterpiece to be shared with the world! The expanded Create Mode lets players build and create like never before, giving them access to the same tool set the EA development team used to create each and every level in the game!”

The game has been set for a ‘Spring 2009’ release date in North America and Europe.
