Now it’s time for another day today in the world of gaming.
Online Assassin’s Creed for the iPhone
It’s not what I expected it to be. It appears to be an Assassin’s Creed style deathmatch between you and 3 of your mates, you can hide in the crowd among other things in 3 levels based on the latest title AC2. “Ubisoft is packing the game with features, including a dynamic notoriety ranking system, a built-in friends list, and 24 achievements you can post to Facebook, where the world goes to find out what you’ve been up to.” It’s probably best it’s a fun little iPhone game rather than something serious, Assassin’s Creed online for a console wouldn’t really work.
At least that is what director Fumito Ueda wants to be like. He wants to push a more realistic experience by both the physics of the game and the existence and feeling of the creature. Sounds interesting, but you can’t really get much realism in a title with some weird giant creature. At least it has a sense of imagination rather than gritty realism that many games try and focus on which defeats the purpose of games entirely, escapism.
THQ have revealed titles in the making that plan for a release in 2011 and 2012. It includes a sequel for Darksiders, the Wii title De blob, Red Faction Guerilla and most excitingly of all for me the already announced Saints Row 3. I loved the first 2 games, with it’s tongue on cheek silliness, so that will be a must buy. Bring them on.
Fable 3 to re-invent the world
Something Peter Molyneux would like us to believe like he always does. He’s doing a lecture about “examples of long-established game mechanics which Lionhead intends to replace with more user-friendly and modern iterations.” Basically saying it’s going to re-invent game mechanics. You always need to take his words with a grain of salt, this is no different, nothing has been shown of the game so far so we can’t judge just yet.
“It’s been our philosophy not to charge for it from launch up until now, but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that’s something we’re looking at,” says Sony’s Peter Dille. “I can confirm that as well. That’s something that we’re actively thinking about. What’s the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it’s something we’re thinking about.”
It’s looking more and more likely this is a matter not if but when. I’m personally looking forward to what Sony has to offer if they decide to do this. They still seem to want to keep playing online free. So what to do with it is still a mystery.
