SEGA has announced Binary Domain, the latest game from Toshihiro Nagoshi, creator of the Yakuza franchise. Binary Domain pits players in a robot controlled 2080 Tokyo amidst a battle between robots and humans. The concept places you in the role of an international peace keeping squad that begins to question their purpose and surroundings, begging the question “Are the robots becoming more human, or are humans becoming more like machines?”
Nagoshi explains Binary Domain as, “a dramatic and energetic sci-fi shooter. When you hear sci-fi you may think of cold, clinical environments but with Binary Domain I wanted to combine this with a deep human drama. The keyword we have in mind for this project is ’Life’. I wanted to make something that will be accepted by both the Japanese and Western markets, and this fundamental theme is something everyone knows but which the full extent of can be difficult to grasp.”
AI is apparently the central focus for Binary Domain’s gameplay, with SEGA promising to “make the battlefield a more compelling experience than ever before, and players will have to plan their moves strategically and carefully in order to progress through the hostile environments of the game.” No word on a release date but its multi platform for Xbox 360 and PS3.
