DICE showcased Battlefield 3 with a look at some tank action in story mode, and a look at the impressive Frostbite 2.0 engine powering their upcoming shooter.
The demo that DICE showed off at the conference included a tank segment that tasked the player with a short, yet intense battle with enemy tanks, and then rolling on to an enemy base. Even though there was no buildings for the player to lay waste to, the level still managed to make an open desert an equally destructible environment. The short battle in the enemy base seemed almost overwhelming, with enemy fire coming from all directions, but this was no problem for the US tanks as they pushed on and laid waste to enemy troops and artillery.
The demo concluded with US tanks rolling over a hill, looking out to a vast battle that highlights DICE’s attention to wide landscape shots and large scale battles.

DICE also showed off a trailer that highlights all the improvements made to their Frostbite engine. The new improvements look impressive, with smoother animations in player transitions, improvements in destruction, better lighting for a more cinematic look, and improved rendering and audio. In short, the game looks beautiful.
