Nvidia’s portable Android gaming console with streaming from PC game support will be shipping to consumers on July 31.
After being delayed only days before its originally planned June 21 release date due to a last minute “mechanical issue” from a third party component the Shield is back on track and shipping next week.
If you aren’t familiar with the Shield, its got a Tegra 4 chip and a custom launcher built on the Android OS. It boasts an HD LCD screen attached to a controller and runs games natively on the device while also having the option to stream games from a PC, as long as your rig has a newer Nvidia GPU.
We will have to see how the Shield does in a world where more and more Android gaming devices are being released, but it certainly has an appeal that other have yet to match. People who pre order the shield ($299) can grab a limited edition shirt too.
