Continuing with the promise of giving Gold subscribers two free games per month leading up to the launch of the Xbox One, Microsoft will be giving players Crackdown and Dead Rising 2 along with its separate, short prologue Case Zero for $0 in August.
Competition brings great things for consumers. In an effort to catch up with all of the ‘freebies’ that Playstation Plus subscribers have been given Microsoft is making good on their E3 announcement. From Aug 1 (today) until Aug 14 Gold members can grab the open-world, superpowered collectathon Crackdown for free (normally $15). This digital download, Xbox 360 exclusive title won’t give you access to the Halo 3 multiplayer beta like it did when it first hit shelves in 2007 but has some great building climbing experiences with light RPG mechanics to shape your super solider. Add Crackdown to your library.
With Dead Rising 3 coming as an Xbox One exclusive and launch title, it makes sense from a marketing point of view to give out the previous iteration out to the masses. Starting on Aug 15 you can grab Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero for free. While Dead Rising 2 (Normally$30) did make its way onto PS3, its prologue Case Zero (normally $5) was another Xbox 360 Exclusive. It is a couple hour experience, and easy to grab all the achievements but it does a good job at setting the stage and filling in some gaps leading right into the start of Dead Rising 2.
What do you think? How is Microsoft doing with these free games compared to Sony? 50 dollars of good games for ‘free’ this month sounds like a great deal to me, and unlike those Playstation Plus free games, if you let your Gold subscription expire you will not lose access to any of your free “Games with Gold” titles.
