At 3am PT, over three weeks before E3 2014, Microsoft announced that the new Halo is officially called “Halo 5: Guardians” and will be coming to Xbox One in the fall of 2015.
In a post made to the Xbox Wire early this morning, general manager of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross delivered some more news about the Halo universe. Halo 5: Guardians is being developed on an entirely new engine to take advantage of the Xbox One, in an effort to deliver “a “Halo” game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale [Halo fans have] been dreaming of for more than a decade.”
In addition to Halo 5, 2015 will also bring the debut of the Halo TV series, announced at E3 2014 to be in collaboration with Steven Spielberg.
Ross also teases that there will be a Halo experience released this year which will be a “giant leap, rather than one small step.” A very cryptic statement that implies we might see more than just the rumored Halo 2 HD remake. We won’t have to wait long to find out, more Halo information will certainly be announced at the Xbox Media Briefing on June 9.
Microsoft must be keeping some pretty big secrets for E3 if they are willing to drop some tasty Halo 5 info less than a month before the big show.
This generation of consoles continues to deliver strange surprises at unexpected times.
