During today’s Square Enix Presents live stream at E3 2016, they were joined by Takahisa Taura of PlatinumGames, NieR writer and director Yoko Taro, and producer Yosuke Saito to discuss the upcoming NieR: Automata.
As is standard for him, Yoko Taro wore a mask the entire time. They discussed the development of the game and showed new footage. The battle mechanics are complete, and they are currently implementing the RPG elements and cutscenes. Finally, they shared a special look at the action combat.
Trailers for NieR: Automata have shown a boss battle with elements that resemble bullet hell shooters. Today, PlatinumGames and Square Enix shared footage of that boss battle.
Outside of Square Enix Presents, Yoko Taro was also interviewed by Siliconera at E3, where he swore NieR: Automata has an “ultra happy ending.” Neither Yosuke Saito nor fans of NieR and the Drakengard games believe him.
NieR: Automata has ties to the previous game, but it has a separate story and will be accessible to players who haven’t played NieR. It is due out in early 2017.
