We’re celebrating 8 years so it only makes sense to make a list of our favorite 8 games from the last 8 years.
Burnout Paradise
“I spent most of my time with this game smashing through billboards while singing along to “Girlfriend” which was on repeat. Easily one of my most cherished memories.”
Red Dead Redemption
“I grew up watching a lot of westerns so I always wanted a game that properly captured the elements I loved from that era of film. GUN was cool, but it was severely lacking in various regards that Red Dead Redemption managed to effortlessly nail. Rockstar even dropped one of the best pieces of DLC ever with Undead Nightmare, adding to what I already considered a phenomenal package.”
Batman: Arkham Asylum
“Arkham City might have given me a taste of the open world Batman game I always wanted, but Asylum still has that top notch level design and tight pacing that sets it above its sequels. Every inch of this game is littered with little references that clearly show a studio made of Batman fans making a game for Batman fans.”
Divinity: Original Sin
“I’ve been burned by too many isometric RPGs that promise something different but continue to offer the same thing so you can imagine my joy when Divinity: Original Sin was dropped on me. Here was a game that had a deep RPG system, solid roleplaying options, interactive environments that allowed an interesting layer of strategy during battles, functional co-op with a friend, an interesting world to explore, well designed quests, and on top of all that the game is hilarious. It also has my favorite use of a teleport ability that allows for some good hijinks.”
DEFCON
“DEFCON is the type of game where your friend will lie to your face about needing to be allies so they can freely launch nukes through your country to hit an enemy target, only to betray your truce because your cities were the actual targets. This is a liar’s game and it’s so good because of it.”
Hotline Miami
“As a fan of neo-80’s aesthetics and gratuitous violence, Hotline Miami struck a chord deep inside me that had me addicted to the game for months chasing that high score. Joining you on your journey of carnage is a pulse pounding soundtrack that doesn’t let up for a second.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
“The Witcher 3 has ruined open-world RPGs for me with its fantastic quest design, refined fantasy aesthetic, and engaging writing. The Witcher series immediately became a favorite of mine when I was introduced to the first game with its familiar, yet unique world. What’s probably my favorite part of the series is how each game plays almost completely differently from one another, giving you a unique experience with each game.”
LISA
“LISA is a weird, depraved little monster of a game and it’s incredibly hard to describe to anyone who hasn’t played it. Just go play it.”
