Uncharted movie script completed

Long teased and stalled, the Uncharted movie has taken a step forward with the completion of its script, as confirmed by the movie’s writer Joe Carnahan in an Instagram post (below).

With the script complete, Sony Pictures can move on with production, and could potentially see a released film in 2017 or 2018. Sony had previously removed Uncharted from its 2017 release calendar.

The movie, simply titled Uncharted at present, has had numerous staff changes, and since October 2016 has been given to director Shawn Levy. Levy’s commercial track record is strong with movies like Date Night and the Night at the Museum series, however the critical reception of his movies has been more hit and miss. More recently Levy has executive produced the Netflix hit Stranger Things, and directed at least two of the show’s episodes.

Writer Joe Carnahan has had strong reception to his writing credits with 2011’s The Grey, a survival action movie starring Liam Neeson, but has also had his efforts more-so panned in the likes of 2010’s A-Team (also staring Neeson).

Casting has yet to be reported, however a while male action star of long-jumping age with a knack for suave and sarcasm is likely. Movies based on video games have rarely been well received, however the likes of Resident Evil and Tomb Raider have seen commercial success and multiple installments.
