Namco Museum First to Use Switch Download Play

Download Play, as in the ability to play multiplayer with friends requiring only one copy of a game, was one of the most appealing aspects of owning a Nintendo DS. The Nintendo 3DS used it to a lesser extent and Nintendo made no mention of supporting the feature with the Switch…until now.

Namco is set to be the first to utilize the multiplayer-friendly feature with its release of Namco Museum‘s pack-in Pac-Man Vs.. Other arcade classics included in the compilation releasing July 28 ($29.99) are PAC-MAN, Dig Dug™, Galaga™, Galaga™ ‘88, The Tower of Druaga™, Rolling Thunder™, Rolling Thunder™ 2, Sky Kid™, Splatterhouse™, and Tank Force™.

Since the Switch doesn’t support download play out of the box, there will be a free eShop app released opening up the feature specifically for Pac-Man Vs. The Namco Museum owner loads up the game playing as Pac-Man and a second Switch system, via Download Play, can be used for three people to play as the Pac-Man ghosts.

Here’s hoping that one day we can use Download Play to once again engage in 10-player Tetris battles off one cart like with Tetris DS way back in 2006.
