Best Story – Disco Elysium

Shannon: In a time when game companies run from “politics” in their stories and get the vapors just thinking about social issues, Disco Elysium is unapologetically communist, hilarious, and dark. You can die to things including a door, a wall, a child, and a ceiling fan, and you can become the cop of your dreams, be it the wild-eyed hobocop or be it…why would you be anything but a wild-eyed hobocop?

Danny: Disco Elysium is the type of RPG that isn’t afraid to let players put their own morality on a protagonist. While games like Mass Effect or The Walking Dead present clear black and white choices, the developers at ZA/UM force those that play their game to insert their own flaws and shortcomings in the decisions they make. This makes for an impressively dynamic story no matter how you cut it. Be sure to keep an eye on this team, since they’re most definitely going places.
