Most Disappointing – Anthem
Shannon: I don’t know why this is most disappointing when The Anthem still slaps. GOOD CHARLOTTE FOREVER!
Samantha: To be fair, I haven’t actually played Anthem, but that’s because it seems to be missing everything I want from a BioWare game.
Danny: I had not played the Mass Effect series nor any other game from Bioware prior to playing Anthem and wasn’t particularly offended to find a shallow effort in the schlooter genre. Yet, I firmly realized how disappointing this latest effort from EA when I went back and played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the very first time. Bioware is (was) evidently full of people who were immensely prolific and imaginative, Anthem was a tragic waste of their talents.
Diego: I honestly don’t know how anyone could have been disappointed by this game considering how flavorless the footage of it looked in its leadup and how atrocious that beta was. It’s a very clear cry for help of a major studio desperately trying to reach a mainstream audience by aping the current “it” game (Destiny) but not knowing why that game works, just that it did.
Will: Shallow, dull, and boring are my key descriptors when I think of Anthem. The shock and awe of its verticality and shooting could not mask the inferior story and overwhelming tedium of progression. Let’s hope Dragon Age 4 gets back on the right track for Bioware, a studio known for well executed storytelling games and not Anthem or Mass Effect Andromeda.
