This article contains spoilers for both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Now that many players have gotten their hands on Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it’s natural to wonder what might be in store for Spider-Man 2. Following Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales, there’s plenty that could happen in the inevitable sequel. For Marvel’s Spider-Man-based speculation, check out my earlier article, but right now, let’s talk about where things will be after Miles Morales.
Birth by Swing
One natural bit of progression for Spider-Man 2 would be to incorporate multiple playable Spider-Men. The first game let you play as Spidey, as well as unsuited Miles and Mary-Jane. Now that Miles has a fully fleshed-out set of abilities, it would be the perfect time to split the narrative into Peter and Miles segments, with the ability to freely switch in free-roam. This would also let both characters have their own villains and storylines that can intersect or one big narrative that switches perspectives like in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Either way, the addition of a new Spider-Man is quite welcome.
On the Prowl
With the Prowler going to prison at the end of Miles Morales, it’s possible he’ll stay there for the next game. Since he has a reduced sentence for cooperating with police to take down Roxxon, I’d love to see him take on a Black Cat role in Spider-Man 2. Aaron could be an ally who assists Miles and possibly Peter throughout the game with stealth-based objectives, or he could have his own side-quests that involve teaming-up with Miles and sneaking into enemy bases to shut them down or take their tech. There’s a lot of fun potential for the Prowler, and I hope they use him to his full potential.
Return of the Kingpin
There’s a whole chain of side-quests in Miles Morales that involve the Kingpin, who is still running a crime ring from prison. I wouldn’t be remotely surprised to see Wilson Fisk escape jail, as he has enough money and connections to feasibly do so at any time. Now that he’s aware of a second Spider-Man, I could see Fisk leaving prison and coming back with a vengeance against both Spider-Men, While I don’t see him being the main villain, he’d be a perfect villain for a side-quest chain.
Os-borne Again
The ending of Miles Morales shows Norman Osborne taking his son out of his symbiote-aided healing tank early, all while casting a green shade on Norman himself. This hints at the possibility of a Green Goblin appearance, while heavily suggesting that Harry will either become Venom or release the symbiote upon Peter, Miles, or Eddie Brock. I think it would be a fascinating twist to have Harry as Venom, with Norman and both Spider-Men all trying to stop him in their own ways while clashing with one another. Since this has been hinted at twice now, I assume this will be the major arc of Spider-Man 2.
Marvel Interactive Universe
Finally, there’s potential for a number of new Marvel characters to be introduced, While the story will likely remain focused on the Spider-Men and their close friends, the amount of hints towards things like the Avengers, nations like Wakanda, and even the X-Men makes me wonder if we won’t see a cameo or two. Maybe we’ll see some characters from this year’s Avengers game, or perhaps the Fantastic 4 will buy Fisk Tower now that the Underground is beaten.
