Metroid Dread Brings the Series Back to 2D

One of the biggest announcements of Nintendo’s E3 showcase came in the form of Metroid: Dread, the first 2D Metroid game in nearly two decades. The reveal gave us a look at what sort of enemies Samus will be facing this time around, including an intimidating and unkillable robot called E.M.M.I.  Metroid Dread is set to launch on October 8th, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.

In Metroid Dread, Samus seems to be on the run from Federation robots. This could follow-up on the ending of Metroid Fusion, which has Samus defying Federation orders, and potentially becoming a fugitive. Given that Samus is pursued by Federation E.M.M.I. androids, this possibility seems likely.
