Unicorn Overlord Story and Gameplay Overview

Last week, Atlus and Vanillaware announced their new fantasy tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord. Now, for TGS, they have revealed additional details about the story and gameplay of this upcoming game.

Set on a continent home to humans, elves, angels, and the beast-like bestrals, Unicorn Overlord follows Prince Alain of Cornia, who flees the coup by one of his generals and becomes the leader of the Liberation Army. Ten years after these events, he leads a rebellion alongside numerous other characters who join his quest.

You will freely explore a vast overworld and recruit over 60 unique characters to your cause. A key feature of the game is the freedom you have to choose what order to do things in – where to go, what battles to fight, and what cities to liberate. As you liberate cities, you’ll gain access to facilities like armorers and provisioners, helping you to build up your troops and prepare for the next battle.

In combat, you’ll be in charge of strategy by forming units, setting their tactics, and deciding where to send them. When they encounter an enemy, real-time battle begins. Your allies will use skills based on the tactics you’ve set up, so you’ll need to learn from combat and prepare accordingly.

It will include 3 difficulty levels, as well as an online mode where you fight against other players in PVP battles. Pre-orders will also come with a heraldry pack that lets you customize your flag with emblems based on Odin Sphere, Dragon’s Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. A Digital Deluxe edition and physical Collector’s Edition are also available.

Unicorn Overlord will be out on March, 8, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
