Metaphor: ReFantazio Unveils New Trailer and Gameplay Details

At Summer Game Fest 2024, Atlus and Sega revealed a new trailer for the upcoming fantasy RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio. Titled “Awaken,” this new trailer provides another look at the story and gameplay.

Following the Summer Game Fest, Atlus returned later in the evening with a deeper dive into Metaphor: ReFantazio in a special showcase that focused on combat and the Archetype system. This system allows the player to choose from many different classes, or Archetypes, for their party, each with its own strengths and skills. Not only do these Archetypes affect the turn-based “squad” combat, but different action skills are also available to the main character depending on his Archetype for the action-based “fast” combat to start battles.

The showcase also described the Synthesis system, which allows the player to use two characters’ turns to perform a special joint attack. For example, an Archetype might have access to an element not normally available to it through a Synthesis attack with another character, and a party stacked with a particular Archetype might gain powerful Synthesis skills to weigh against its skewed nature.

Physical and digital pre-orders are now live for both physical and digital copies, as well as the physical collector’s edition.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will be out on October 11 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC (via Windows and Steam).
