Bread and Fred, the challenging co-op penguin platformer, gets a massive free update that doubles the game’s content. Publisher Infogrames and developer Sand Castles Studio are launching the ‘Laboratory Update’, which adds an entirely new 666-meter map, new platforming mechanics, secret capybaras, and an all-new boss room. The update for Nintendo Switch and PC will arrive later this week, alongside a 35% discount to celebrate.
And that’s not all—Bread and Fred is also coming soon to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, bringing its precision platforming chaos to even more players.
New Challenges Await in the Laboratory Update
To access the new Laboratory map, players must first complete the base game in co-op mode. Once unlocked, the new area introduces fresh platforming mechanics, including:
- Electronic Platforms – Activated by buttons, lasers, or sensors.
- Impulse Platforms – Launch the penguins into the air if they jump at the right time.
- Rotating Platforms – Move automatically, requiring precision timing to navigate.
At the top of the lab, players will face a brand-new boss room with four timed puzzles that must be completed before time runs out.
Capybara Secrets and Console Release Incoming
Hidden within the Laboratory are five secret zones, each containing puzzle challenges that lead players to lost capybaras. These adorable creatures are scattered throughout the Lab, waiting to be discovered by the brave (and well-coordinated) penguins.
With the new content drop, console launch on the horizon, and a limited-time discount, now is the perfect time to jump, swing, and climb your way through the toughest co-op platformer around.
Prepare to grab your partner (and a lot of patience) when the Laboratory Update launches later this week.
