Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s Nightmares & Visions Update Brings New Mode, Ogryn Rework, and More

Rejects, it’s time to test your mettle. Fatshark has dropped Nightmares & Visions, the latest free update for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, bringing a new wave-based mode, major endgame updates, and a complete rework of the Ogryn’s talent tree. Available now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, the update also kicks off a time-limited event, giving players an excuse to dive into the horrors of the Mourningstar’s Psyker-infested nightmares.

To celebrate the update, Darktide is 50% off on Steam, so now’s the perfect time to jump into the Emperor’s service (or be ground into paste trying).

Mortis Trials: A Psyker’s Nightmare Unleashed

The update’s highlight is Mortis Trials, a wave-based survival mode available to players level 13 and up. Here’s the twist: The trials are induced by the ship’s Psyker, Sefoni, meaning that reality itself is warped and unpredictable. Players can mix and match their builds on the fly, selecting randomized abilities and buffs that shape their combat style for the duration of each run.

Key Features of Mortis Trials:

  • Choose Your Indulgence: Pick from five unique combat buffs, specializing in elemental attacks, melee brawling, survivability, or hybrid playstyles.
  • Survive 12 Escalating Waves: Every third wave introduces objectives, with a final gauntlet showdown testing players’ full capabilities.
  • Unlock Hidden Lore: Surviving the Mortis Trials grants memory echoes, revealing secrets about key characters on the Mourningstar.

Havoc Mode Gets a Major Refresh

For those who crave endgame challenges, Nightmares & Visions delivers big updates to Havoc mode, making progression clearer, rewards more satisfying, and encounters deadlier.

  • Rank Overhaul: Progression is now shared across the team, making group play more rewarding.
  • Campaign System: Missions and mutators will rotate, keeping Havoc challenges fresh each session.
  • New Mutators: Fatshark is throwing four new horrors into the mix:
    • Heinous Rituals: Stop heretics from summoning a deadly new Daemonhost—or deal with the consequences.
    • The Encroaching Garden: Some enemies now heal their allies, forcing players to prioritize targets.
    • Rampaging Enemies: Each fallen enemy buffs the remaining horde, turning combat into a brutal war of attrition.
    • Enraging Elites: Injured Elites become faster, stronger, and immune to crowd control, making every fight a race against time.

Ogryn Talent Tree Overhaul

Big lads rejoice—Fatshark has given Ogryns a full talent tree rework, adding more melee options, tanking tools, and ranged combat viability.

  • Expanded Melee Builds: Players aren’t forced into heavy attack-only builds anymore—light and heavy attacks are now viable options.
  • Stronger Tanking & Support: New passives increase damage resistance and team buffs, making Ogryns even better at soaking damage.
  • Improved Ranged Combat: The Burst Limiter Override ability has been reworked, allowing stronger explosive and sustained fire builds.
  • Better Movement & Survivability: Dodging now staggers enemies, while new perks improve toughness regeneration in combat.

The result? A more flexible and adaptable Ogryn, no matter your playstyle.

Time-Limited Event: A Day at the Theatre

To celebrate Nightmares & Visions, Darktide is hosting a special event focusing on Mortis Trials, inviting players to experience the madness of the ship’s Psyker through a theatrical lens. Expect exclusive rewards and bragging rights—assuming you survive.

Emperor’s Wrath Is Calling

With Nightmares & Visions, Fatshark is giving Darktide’s endgame a serious upgrade, making it more replayable, rewarding, and unpredictable. Whether you’re facing Mortis Trials, braving new Havoc mutators, or smashing heretics with the revamped Ogryn, there’s plenty of new horrors to face in the name of the Emperor.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is available now on Steam, Windows Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
