Studio Far Out Games has teamed up with KONAMI for their latest game, Deliver At All Costs. Together they’ll be releasing this action-packed game full of destruction, absurdity, and possibly aliens to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG on May 22nd. Shockingly, this very interesting and fun-looking game will be released for free on launch week on the Epic Games Store. What’s being described as a high-octane, narrative-driven action game will be free for one week on launch, with a 10% discount on all other platforms. Let’s take a look at the trailer and see what we can expect from Deliver At All Costs.
This isometric action game looks both absurd and thrilling when watching the trailer. And not just because of the goofy driving mechanics, but the 50s aesthetic paired with the narrative being presented is a wild combination. I’m truly fascinated by some of the things shown in the trailer, including the tone shift midway through. It looks wacky the whole way through but narratively becomes something beyond a zany and wild delivery job and decides to take itself a little seriously. Studio Far Out Games has sweetened the pot by releasing a series of dev diaries where they talk about various aspects of the game. Their latest one was released earlier today and is focused on vehicles and locations. Narrative & Art Director Jimmy Hultén had this to say about designing the protagonist’s truck:
The car is made up of like 30-something pieces that can fall off. So that was obviously a challenge to not get them stuck together and sort of glitch out and uh just generally make them feel good especially when the car crashes and blows up and pieces fly all over the place.
Lars Olsson, Level Designer and Founder of Studio Far Out Games had this to say about the world:
The world consists of three acts, three larger areas, each area consists of five to eight smaller worlds that we call dioramas. Both dioramas and the acts will have profiles or you know a theme of their own that will make it stand out and give it an experience of their own.
The whole playlist of dev logs is fairly short, ranging from 2 – 9 minutes long but gives a really strong glimpse into the development process and what the developers were thinking when designing certain aspects of the game. It should also give you a strong idea about the environments, story, locations, and mission structure taking place within the game. I can only imagine there are a few more dev logs in the works between now and the release that should help give us a better understanding of the game. Until then though, we do have some information about what to expect.
