Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree, the new 2.5D Action RPG by Primal Game Studio and published by Knights Peak released a new trailer at Future Game Show. The trailer showed off a lot of the Soulslike combat, hand-painted world, and character progression. We get to see a lot of the combat that looks very cinematic, along with some small puzzle-solving elements. The trailer shows off a brief shot of the talent tree window and it looks both elaborate and complex. Not quite reaching sphere grid levels, the talent tree looks robust for a Metroidvania. Let’s take a look at the trailer and what else lies within this Soulslike Action RPG.
Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree immerses players in a realm consumed by Entropy, where humanity fights for survival against monstrous creatures and twisted horrors. There is a light in the darkness though, and it’s you! I’m not sure the trailer showed us much more than what we already knew, especially so close to the release date. But the trailer is sufficient in generating interest as the game is starting to shape up. While Primal Game Studio has been around since 2012, the studio that calls Budapest home, it seems that their most notable work has been in a support capacity for the League of Legends universe. Everything else appears to be a work in progress. It’s exciting to see that they’re ramping up for their first major release with Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree.

Originally slated for release in 2023, Mandragora started on Kickstarter in September of 2022, over a 35-day period they managed to raise $276,742 of their $110,00 goal, hitting their final stretch goal to add in The Queen of Smiles from Salt and Sanctuary to the game. Though the release of this project is nearly 2 years late, it’s common for these projects to see delays, and always good to see them release at all. With both a Kickstarter and an Epic MegaGrant, it’s no surprise they wanted to expand the scope a bit and make sure they were able to get everything just right for release.
Two things that stick out to me about this release. The first is the use of Denuvo, which is unfortunate for PC gamers. Likewise, it appears there’s an exclusive in-game quest that’s locked behind a pre-order, which I’m not particularly fond of. Buyer beware.
That aside, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree appears to be shaping up to impress when it releases on April 17th, 2025. Mandragora will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
