The Sinking City Remaster Announced as Sequel’s Kickstarter Surpasses $450K

Frogwares, developers of The Sinking City, the Sherlock Holmes series, and Magrunner have been hosting a Kickstarter for the sequel to their acclaimed lovecraftian third-person shooter. Blasting past their $107,920 goal almost immediately, Frogwares has already raised over $450,000 for their 1920’s investigative thriller follow-up. The Ukrainian developer has a few more surprised left in them after reaching over 400% of their original ask, let’s see what’s in store.

For your protection, please avoid contact with anybody that may appear abnormal. The Sinking City 2 gameplay teaser is a chilling look at what Frogwares has in store for us when they release potentially in December of 2025. While The Sinking City 2 looks great and seems to be coming along swimmingly, especially with the success of their Kickstarter campaign, managing to reach their initial funding goal in just two hours, The Sinking City Remaster is the announcement du jour.

  • Game fully relit in Unreal Engine 5
  • Enhanced locations with additional levels of detail and objects
  • 4K textures and improved reflections
  • Addition of a Photo Mode
  • Support for DLSS, FSR and TSR upscaling

Originally released in June 2019 and developed on Unreal Engine 4, the upcoming remaster is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and promises an upgraded visual experience alongside some requested quality-of-life features.

A pretty solid early list of features for The Sinking City Remaster. More importantly, The Sinking City Remaster will be available for free to all existing owners of The Sinking City on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Which is a pretty generous offering. No pricing information has been revealed for The Sinking City Remaster but I imagine that will be revealed closer to launch. We also don’t have a release date but that’s to be expected since this version was just revealed. Frogwares also wanted to shine a light on an upcoming event that could give you the opportunity to have your voice heard in The Sinking City 2.

Lend Your Voice to the Old Gods

Submission information for the voice contest held by Frogwares for their kickstarted title The Sinking City 2.

Frogwares has also launched an initiative that gives anyone the chance to have their voice included in The Sinking City 2, along with their name in the credits. Their voice will be part of a choir chanting praises to one of the Eldritch gods of time, Yog-Sothoth, featured in the game.

To participate, simply submit a voice recording of yourself saying “YES” in any way you choose – a whisper, growl, shout, or anything else – fill out a quick form, and submit your file here: https://tally.so/r/wQOPMY.

Not only do you have a chance to get your void in the game, but one lucky winner will get a free copy of The Sinking City 2 Collector’s Edition. The Collector’s Edition will only be available in a limited amount to Kickstarter backers, so that’s an opportunity to get your hands on one without paying for it. The submission deadline is April 3rd, 12 PM CET | 7 AM EST | 4 AM PST.

The Sinking City 2 Kickstarter

Initially announced on March 6th, 2024, Forgwares took a year to reinvent themselves before they put up the Kickstarter on Marth 6th, 2025. Sergiy Oganesyan, Head of Publishing for Frogwares had this to say about reinventing the studio:

The original Sinking City is still one of our most successful titles, most likely because of stronger horror genre leanings and setting. We created quite a few detective adventures in the past, so now we’re going to mix things up to keep doing what people love about us – meaning story-rich experiences – while still being able to evolve. The industry is changing around us and we want to secure the studio’s future.

Aiming to pivot to a “horror-first” focus, Frogwares wanted to lean into what made their most succcessful titles so profitable. Building on that, The Sinking City 2 will also continue the original game’s legacy of being a detective, with the caveat that you can put your sleuth cap on only when players want to. Denys Chebotarov, Executive Producer at Frogwares had this to say.

We want investigation to be a beneficial part of the game but just for those who want it, offering tangible gameplay bonuses and eureka moments without it being a requirement to progress. By taking time to piece together clues, you’ll arm yourself with more knowledge and awareness of your options vs just coming across them by chance. We are also doing this for our existing fans who have come to love this feature from us, so they don’t feel left out. For those not keen on combat and survival-horror mechanics, we will also have various accessibility features to help.

The Ukrainian studio managed to raise $107,920, 100% of their goal within 2 hours. Since then, they’ve managed to raise over $450,000 leading to the Remastered version of the original game. Great work, Frogwares.

There are no official release dates for either The Sinking City Remaster or The Sinking City 2, but Frogwares is hoping to have The Sinking City 2 out on December of 2025.
