Funcom’s ambitious open-world survival MMO, Dune: Awakening, is now set to launch on June 10, with head start access available June 5 for early supporters. The delay gives the team additional time to fine-tune the game based on ongoing feedback from the persistent closed beta, and to prep for a large-scale public beta weekend happening in May.
“These three extra weeks will give us the time needed to make improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one,” Funcom shared in an official statement.
The developer also confirmed that hundreds of journalists and creators are currently hands-on with a preview build, with coverage dropping April 25.
The move follows a busy few months of hype-building, including the release of the game’s Character Creator & Benchmark Mode in February, and pre-orders going live in March. Since then, Funcom has steadily released livestreams and dev diaries to keep fans in the loop—today’s livestream focuses on the game’s evolving combat systems.
Multiplayer Survival, Reimagined for Arrakis
Dune: Awakening promises a bold fusion of survival mechanics and MMO scale, set in a persistent, ever-shifting world shaped by sandworms, politics, and player ambition. With its emphasis on faction warfare, resource management, and dynamic environments, the game aims to push the boundaries of the survival genre.
The delay signals Funcom’s commitment to making sure they “stick the landing” for what they’re calling a “beast of a game.”
Stay tuned for full impressions when the April 25 preview embargo lifts, and keep an eye out for details on the upcoming beta weekend in May.
You can wishlist the game now on Steam and catch today’s livestream on YouTube or Twitch.
