E3 2012: Quantic Dream Announces Beyond: Two Souls

Quantic Dream, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Heavy Rain for PlayStation 3, announced their latest title, Beyond: Two Souls.

The Sony exclusive title will feature actress Ellen Page as the main character of Beyond, Jodie Holmes. Page provides her voice and her likeness for the mysterious female protagonist. Players will follow Holmes through 15 years of her life during the game’s story.

As David Cage, game director and CFO of Quantic Dream, took the stage, he set the mood for the atmospheric and thought provoking title. He started by discussing mankind’s fascination of death and the afterlife, which will be the theme of Beyond.

Quantic showed off their impressive engine with real-time gameplay. The amount of detail Quantic has put into facial expressions was quite impressive, and regular body animation and environment details were some of the best shown on the first day of E3. However, it’s unclear on what gameplay mechanics the studio will focus on.

Their previous game, Heavy Rain, was focused on quick-time events, which allowed Quantic Dream to focus on a more story and character driven game.
