The Family Plan Interview – Discussing Similarities and Video Games

The Family Plan is an action comedy movie starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Margaret Colletti, and Van Crosby. The movie is directed by Simon Cellan Jones. The Family Plan debuts today on Apple TV+.

I had a chance to speak with the cast about what it was like acting as a family and favorite video games.

Will Saw: In your interactions with Van and Zoe, how was it similar to your own family?

Mark Wahlberg: It was so similar. It was one of those things where the benefit of them doing all these scenes in the car is that they would communicate with each other. Just like my kids. [They] think we’re idiots, don’t know anything. But they would talk in a way that my kids wouldn’t so it gave me a little insight into what my kids are probably thinking and what they’re really like. Because they think we’re just out of touch, we don’t know anything. The furthest thing from being cool. They brought quite a bit to the table and it was really nice to see that cause the whole thing revolves around the chemistry and the family dynamic and that’s a thing that works and that’s a thing that’s so relatable and so fun. And I think that’s what’s going to make the movie such a huge success. That was certainly the big appeal for me. That it was something for everybody and they brought a lot to the table.

Since gaming is a big subplot in the movie – do you both have a favorite video game you play?

Zoe Margaret Colletti: My favorite video game of all time is Overcooked. I love Overcooked! I go in such a rage, a guttural rage while playing that game. I’m really not that good at it so its usually people getting angry at me and me getting angry that someone else is getting angry at me. But I love it. I play as the little raccoon and I run around do my little cooking. And I love it.

Van Crosby: Oh man. I play a lot of Valorant and Minecraft. You know obviously, can’t go wrong with Minecraft. I’ve been playing Rocket League recently, getting back into that. Yeah, those are my big three. I can’t pick a favorite out of those, it’s kinda hard. You can’t top Minecraft, so I guess that’s the answer there.
