CD Projekt, makers of The Witcher, are launching a digital download distribution service called Good Old Games in September which will allow PC gamers to relive their past by buying old PC games from the store.
The service will be touted for its DRM (Digital Rights Management) free, relatively cheap price points, as well as compatiablity with Windows XP and Vista. Pricing will be between $5.99 to $9.99. Titles currently announced for the service include Fallout, Fallout 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Sacrifice, Descent 1-3 and Kingpin: Life of Crime, and many more.
The removal of DRM, which is basically copy protection, allows gamers to enjoy the experience of reliving their PC past without the intrusion or scruitiny of the internet police. Support from publishers such as Interplay and Codemasters have provided the service with potential. Maybe the inclusion of future publishers such as Electronic Arts and Lucasarts with their library of classic PC titles may one day be coming to the service as well.
