Prince of Persia creator, Joseph Mechner, is planning to revive his first game, the martial-arts title Karateka.
“There actually is a plan to bring back Karateka,” “It’s a project I’m going to be involved in. I can safely say it’s not going to be in the way you expect.”
As reported by Gamasutra, the designer later confirmed the project will be a video game, but offered no further details on platforms, development studio, or a release date.
Karateka was first released in 1984 and defined fluid animations that inspired Prince of Persia, which first debuted in 1989. Prince of Persia was revived for the modern era with Ubisoft and Mechner’s collaborative effort on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, released in 2003. The success of the series launched multiple sequels and a series reboot as well as a feature film.
