EA Maxis’ heavily anticipated, long awaited, oft delayed evolution simulator Spore is a week away from completion.
The game is set to go gold – a phrase used to signify that the game is done and will be sent to manufacturing in advance for its September 7th release on PC and Mac.
EA CEO John Riccitiello noted today that he hopes the game’s success will lead Spore to have its own publishing label, much like EA’s Sims division.
Riccitiello stated that Spore is likely to have multiple expansion packs and additional parts that will be paid downloadable content or microtransactions. Although, the focus was on the games launch.
“We’ve got a clear, obvious and very compelling post-launch monetization opportunity.”
“This is a game where basically, the parts are what make the sum of the product work.”
“Job one is to make the launch successful,” “and making sure we have the right to ask that question [about expansions and more content] down the road.”
