Left 4 Dead’s only cutscene will occur in the introduction of the game. For the rest of the game, the story will be told through 8,000 lines of dialog and occasional messages found on the game’s maps.
The dialogue will depend on a specific situation, so it could take weeks or even months before a player stumbles upon a line that gives more light to their character’s backstory. The Left 4 Dead team decided to not include cutscenes because the title is meant to be experienced over and over again and cutscenes were not.
“We didn’t want to have the game game gummed up with a story line,”
“We wanted to keep it really clean and tight. A zombie apocalypse.”
“It’s about killing zombies, not some fable on the reconstruction of humanity.”
“You’re going to play a map 50 to 100 times so we can be more subtle,”
Players can pull their own experience out of the game as opposed to having one thrown at them. Valve is currently looking towards releasing new scenarios in the near future, however the company wants to make sure anything they release and sell will have a real value.
More information about Xbox 360 controls and why there is no PS3 version after the jump!

The Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead will have a similar feel to the PC counterpart with slight adjustments.
The aiming for the 360 controller has been tweaked to allow a auto-aim feature. However the auto-aim is blended in very discretely into the game that players will feel that is non-existent. The controls have also included a button for a 180 turn that will help players take on the ever present zombie threat in the back.
Why is there no PS3 version? It’s a matter of development time. In contrast to the Playstation 3, the PC and Xbox 360 are similar enough that it is basically “almost like pushing an A button,” while the PS3 requires that developers start from scratch.
While this is no indication that the game won’t be coming to the Playstation 3, development for the title though, will take a while.
