Charlie Brooker, Writer/Columnist/Broadcaster is currently working on a new TV series titled Gameswipe. After posting on his Twitter account asking for followers opinions on “Worst videogame bosses ever? Email yr suggestions to gameswipe at zeppotron dot com” it highly implied a new TV series was in the works. IncGamers contacted the company involved Endemol and Zeppotron and has confirmed that Gameswipe’s being made but production is currently closed. His latest series Newswipe has just finished so I don’t expect this to come around anytime soon. But this has me excited. It could possibly be the best video game related TV show ever made.
For those unfamilar with Charlie Brooker. Charlie used to write for PCZone (now Computer And Video Games) but was later let go after a “Lara Croft’s Cruelty Zoo” joke in the magazine. He was later picked up by UK newspaper The Guardian writing a column titled Screenburn, articles all about TV (which he still does to this day). In recent years Brooker has written and presented his own show Screenwipe a show all about television (currently on it’s 5th series) and last month finished airing Newswipe, a show on the same format as Screenwipe only about the news instead. He’s also wrote Dead Set, a popular UK Zombie drama series.
He’s known for his satirical and often profane comedic style. Even Zero Punctuation’s Yahtzee has cited Charlie Brooker as one of his main influences. He has always expressed a very high interest in video games, and his sharp and genuinally funny style based around the video game industry should be something to look out for. For an example of what to expect, here’s a link to the first episode of Screenwipe. All episodes are available on Youtube.
