Orcs Must Die Revealed, Gas Powered Games Takes Over Age of Empires

Former Ensemble Studios members Robot Entertainment announced a new title today, Orcs Must Die. Arriving on “personal computers and consoles this summer,” Orcs Must Die looks to blend tower defense strategy with action. Players will contend with endless waves of orcs in an attempt to defend their fortress. To aid this, players can set up traps and use special abilities to lessen the numbers.

Orcs Must Die is touted exclusively for “digital download,” giving the possibility of PSN and XBLA versions as destinations in the near future. With Robot Ent’s announcement of their new title, they effectively switched off development duties with Gas Powered Games on the upcoming online multiplayer Age of Empires Online. Executive producer Danan Davis remarked on the official blog that, “This has been the plan for some time, and we’re excited to share the great work GPG has been doing. In working with GPG, it’s become clear they share our long-term commitment to make this a success.”

According to Robot Entertainment’s website, Orcs Must Die will be playable at this year’s PAX East 2011.
