Captivate ’11: Street Fighter x Tekken

This year’s Captivate showcases a huge media blowout of new information with regards to Street Fighter x Tekken, Capcom‘s newest collaboration with Namco‘s illustrious Tekken franchise. We only saw a glimpse of the new series with a preliminary demo showcased at 2010’s San Diego Comic-Con, but Captivate’s new showing demonstrates just how much the game has already transformed.

Most notable of these changes is the HUD and the art-style. The health bars have drastically changed, and Comic-Con’s early build showed Street Fighter models that were much more identical to their SF4 counterparts. As of Captivate, fighters from both series have received a digital make-over with much darker ink patterns and shades changing their overall look. We also saw the beginnings of a tag-team mechanic when we saw Ryu and Chun-Li perform a combined Ultra combo back at Comic-Con, but it remained unknown as to whether or not this partnership was simply Assist-based or if players were able to switch out characters entirely. Captivate has shown that the latter is more than likely the case.

Below is an interview Yoshinori Ono has with Gametrailers speaking about the History and Mechanics of the new title.

There is still no set release date, but the game is still on track to be released for both the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3.
