CD Projekt revealed new details regarding the upcoming sequel, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
The Witcher 2 will use SecuROM protection for its retail disc releases, while it may come off as a bad thing, the game will allow for “unlimited installations on a unlimited amount of computers” and allows “play on up to 5 computers at once.” The game will require an internet connection to verify the activation and means that The Witcher 2 won’t be playable before its May 17 release.
The game will also be available for purchase on digital distribution platforms like the DRM-free Good Old Games. Users that purchase the game through GOG.com will not need a code for activation to play The Witcher 2 and instead comes completely unlocked. However, note that players will need a code to play future DLC installments.
Starting May 10, players who preordered the game through GOG.com will be able to preload 90% of the game. Good Old Games is the only digitally distributed platform that is doing this feature.
Unlike the previous installments of The Witcher series, the sequel will not implement any region censorship. Each region will see the same story and gameplay and the final game features sixteen different endings. CD Projekt announced a challenge to the first player to unlock all sixteen endings of The Witcher 2 and prove it through a save file will be awarded a special t-shirt.
