Indie game developers love Activision too as the publisher announced the winners of the first round of its Activision Independent Games Competition. Destroyd by Peter Angstadt won the first place cash prize of $175,000 and Rigonauts: Broadside by Engient took second place for $75,000.
Destoyd describes itself as “a post apocalyptic shooter” which plays “a little like GunBound meets an RTS.” So real-time Worms with building weapons and units. It is, or was previously, in development for PC and Xbox Live Indie Games.
Engient’s Rigonauts: Broadside has a strategic component as players design and construct warmachines and rampage around the countryside taking on other contraptions and creations.
Noted in the competition rules, Activision has the first right of refusal when it comes to finding a publisher for Destoyd and Rigonauts. I’m getting EA Partners is out of the question.
